 |
The Conselho Supremo da Sociedade do Espirito Santo also known as the Supreme Council of S.E.S. (Society of the Holy Spirit) was organized on December 16, 1895, in the City of Santa Clara, California, by a handful of Portuguese immigrants as a nonprofit fraternal benefit society. The Society was recorded in the Hall of Records, County of Santa Clara on January 2, 1896, and registered in the Hall of Records, Sacramento, California, on January 18, 1896.
The Supreme Council of S.E.S. was founded for the following reasons:
| 1) |
To promote the annual realization of the Feast of the Holy Spirit, aiming to preserve the memory of the sons of Portugal and the faith that guided them.
|
| 2) |
Promote the moral, social, and fraternal development of its members.
|
| 3) |
Give protection and aid to its members who need it, according to the rules of the S.E.S. Constitution and per the terms of the life insurance policies issued by the S.E.S.
